About Me/Why I Choose to Travel

I am one of those people that has no problem picking up and going. I do not get homesick (not to say that I don't miss my family) and I am able to travel with no itinerary (let's be honest, itineraries are a pain to make). I travel because I love it and because it's in my blood. My parents both traveled extensively and still do. I have six siblings and the majority of them have traveled extensively as well. Shout out to Loren and Jordan in Scotland and Ryan in Australia! Traveling for me, is as normal as breathing. It's just what I do. The main reason I chose my major was so that I could go anywhere in the world with it. I love the quote, "life begins at the end of your comfort zone." I don't ever want to be comfortable in life. I get bored when I am too comfortable. Traveling enables me to learn new things, meet new people, and break out of my comfort zone and I love it. If I had it my way, we'd all be travelers. Not tourists, but travelers. You'll learn pretty soon that I'm cliche AF, but I promise you that you find yourself when you travel. Your viewpoitns change and you realize how small you truely are on this huge planet!

There have been a lot of people ask me why I am traveling throughout Europe for three and a half months. Although I wish I could say that it is all for fun, the truth is that I will be completing a required internship in Europe!

Q: Lane, why do you need to complete an internship?

A: I am in the Hospitality and Tourism program at my University and we are required to complete three internships before we graduate so this is considered my second internship.

Q: Lane, why did you choose to do your internship in Europe?

A: I am not someone to stay in the same place for long. After traveling the world with my sister in the fall of 2014, I realized that throughout all of the ups and downs that traveling brings, this is something that I need to pursue because I love it! I applied to about six or seven internships in the United States in early January and never heard anything back (so sad) so I decided to apply to hostels in Europe. Within a few weeks, I had it all planned.

Q: Lane, what exactly will you be doing in Europe?

A: I will be working at sustainable hostels until mid-August. I will start off in Portugal and then go to Croatia. After that, I will head off to the Netherlands!
